Welcome! Thanks for visiting my blog, Disrupt IT.  And, no, disrupt it does not just refer to my behavior!  Disrupt IT refers to all of the new disruptive technologies available as marketing tools today.  Why are they disruptive?  They continue to “disrupt” traditional media plans as the way we interact, communicate, engage and even purchase, continually evolves along with technology.  Disrupt IT is dedicated to exploring these disruptive technogies and media and how they can be used to make the world a better place.   Why make the world a better place?  Why not!!  You can read more about why I started this blog in the post Who Really Cares?, but the bottom line is that we can all make a difference, and using disruptive technologies we can make an even bigger impact working together.  Every gift to charitable causes not only benefits the recipients, but also benefits the givers and the world we live in. So, join in the conversation and help make the world a better place!

Digital, Interactive, Integrated & Social Media Marketing

In October of 2009, Eric joined forces with an outstanding leader in nonprofit marketing and fundraising, Grizzard Communications Group out of Atlanta and Los Angeles, as the Vice President of Digital Marketing.  Grizzard is an amazing company that has been around since 1918 and has the largest nonprofit client base of any agency in the US.  As Vice President of Digital Marketing, Eric leads the agency’s digital team to deliver the latest and most relevant solutions in interactive, online, and new media marketing to Grizzard’s impressive and growing client base.  Grizzard’s efforts have generated billions of dollars in financial support for some of North America’s best-supported charities. Quite simply, they have identified millions of donors, each representing a lifetime value that will help these outstanding organizations continue to grow and expand their programs.

For the three years prior to joining Grizzard, Eric worked for a great organization, Operation Smile. A $50 Million Global organization with foundations in 27 countries, Operation Smile provides medical relief in over 50 countries and growing.  Eric launched the organization’s first department dedicated to delivering online services and interactive strategies.  As Director of Online & Interactive, initiatives and responsibilities included:

  • expanding the interactive capabilities and reach of the online channel
  • scoping, deploying and managing eCRM & CMS technologies
  • web development and site re-designs
  • integrating email and online into other Direct Response channels
  • launch and manage +15 web properties in multiple languages
  • web analytics (Omniture & Google), SEO, SEM, Social Networking, Viral
    Fundraising, Video, eCommerce programs
  • supporting international fundraising initiatives
  • launch and management of branded Online Communities, Internal & External

Eric’s online team generated new revenue channels, significant revenue and email list growth, improved branding and increase engagement with Operation Smile’s supporters.  The team is also proud to have contributed the online channel portion of the integrated marketing efforts that were recognized by the Direct  Marketing Association’s Non Profit of the Year Award for 2008.

In February 2009,  Eric assumed the role of Director of Online Communities and Social Media to deliver the latest strategies and technologies for internal collaboration and constituent engagement.  In this role, he deployed the latest technologies and strategies to launch a new department dedicated to delivering this web 2.0 solution.

Business Development , Creative Services & Direct Response Marketing

While at Apollo Press, Inc, a regional commercial and wholesale printer based in Newport News, Virginia, Eric served as both Director of Creative Services and Director of Business Development.  Working directly with innovative and creative CEO John Taylor, he launched the company’s first creative services division, building a team and implementing technologies that would increase service levels and become a profit center.  Eric also directed an integrated marketing campaign that built a regional wholesale market with a sales presentation package that took 1st Place in 2005 PIVA Awards, and developed the company’s first website to provide data transfer and increased customer services.  On the client services side, Eric management to national accounts that included Anhueser Busch, Dollar Tree, and Amerigroup.

As Marketing Director for Progressive Printing & Publishing Group, Eric grew a start up venture into respected competitor by generating revenue growth from $0 – $750,000 and rolled out direct response programs that maximized ROI and increased subscriber base to Pro Football Publication Association member publisher by over 150%.

Eric has served on the Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads chapter of the
American Marketing Association
since 2007, most recently as President-
Elect for the 2009-2010 term, until relocating to Atlanta, GA.

Additionally, Eric won the 2009 American Marketing Association Nonprofit Marketer of the Year Award, has been cited in several publications, has served as a panelists/presenter on an Email, Social Media and Online Marketing webinars, and takes part in the web technology advisory board for ECPI.
